Easy Lithium Battery Reconditioning Right At Home

A lithium battery is one of the most energetic rechargeable battery there is which contains lithium ions. Upon charging, these ions travel from a positive electrode to the negative side and vice versa upon discharge. This is commonly used to power electronic devices such as music players (e.g. mp3s), laptops, camcorders, cellular phones, telephones, cameras and even electric shavers.

Like any other reconditioning process, lithium battery reconditioning restores it to its full capacity. In contrast to a nickel-cadmium battery reconditioning which requires a step to fully discharge it, lithium battery reconditioning does not have any memory effect, meaning completely discharging a battery before recharging it is not necessary in a lithium-ion battery.

The primary cause why a battery dies out even before it is supposed to is sulfation. It is an instance when sulfur crystals build up in the lead plates of the battery causing it to be resistant of any charge. This blockage is usually contributed by two factors:

1. When a battery remains idle for quite some time; and

2. When it is too strained due to constant recharging and discharging.

To avoid throwing away your used battery every time it dies out unexpectedly, you can opt to do a lithium battery reconditioning.

How does it work?

A lithium-ion battery is reconditioned by:

1. First, determine the current charge of the battery. This step will help you decide on how exactly you will recondition your battery.

2. After, you can either then apply any of the following to remedies on your Li-ion battery:

o Charge slowly your battery when it has only a charge of 1.5 volts to fully restore its full capacity.

o Use a desulfator to send high-pulse charges to shatter formations of crystals.

o Sometimes, one cell in it is unequally discharged, usually below 2.5 volts. At this point, the battery dies. To reactivate the safety circuit in your battery, boost charge it using a special or programmable charger.

o To do away with the memory effects, slowly discharge your battery.

Why bother recondition?

Lithium battery reconditioning at your own homes is easy to do. All you need is a detailed guide to direct you on how to carefully execute each step, and the right tools. The process is simple that you yourself can do the reconditioning! Apart from this, you are doing yourself a favor by saving and prolonging the life of your battery. You do not have to buy a battery for your cellular phone every time it malfunctions because you yourself know how to revive it right at home. Now, how convenient is that?

Most of your gadgets nowadays are powered by lithium-ion battery. To avoid the expense of having to replace it every now and then, why not try reconditioning it yourself at the comfort of your own homes?
